Last day of the month, and
for some, this is the last
day of their lease.
Yesterday, we found out that
our house had been sold, and
I met our new landlords.
Today, I saw a river of
rented trucks carrying futons.
One, unladen and still
buoyant, eased under a
railroad bridge, the roof of
the truck grinding rust off
the old rivets. "It's just
scraping," said the driver,
"not tearing."
